I am an experienced Health & Safety (H&S) practitioner in the operational, workplace and training environments including as the H & S manager for several business areas within the SFRS and also carried out many accident/near miss investigations during my time in the FRS.

For two years, I also carried out the role of an Operational Planning/Emergency Planning Officer responsible for producing operational policies/procedures and multi-agency special events/emergency planning.

After retiring from the FRS , I worked as a Fire Consultant, conducting fire risk assessments and Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations (DSEAR) assessments across the UK.

I also held the role of Head of Prevention and Protection at The Fire Service College, where I led the development of Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Safety courses, introducing digital learning options and 3D virtual buildings to enhance training.

Throughout my career, I built strong relationships with stakeholders, including Fire Services, professional organizations, and qualification bodies, and contributed to the review and update of Fire Safety qualifications. I continue to work as an independent fire safety consultant, carrying out fire risk assessments and providing expert advice.
